When you arrive from abroad in the Philippines, there are two major entry ports namely MANILA and CEBU. From both ports are excellent connections to travel to Siargao.

Travel Tip! SURIGAO and SIARGAO are two very different places. Surigao is a city on the mainland, and Siargao is a beautiful, tropical island (approximately a 2-3 hour ferry ride away from Surigao).

Below are some of the most common and easiest ways to get here:

FERRY from Surigao City to Siargao Island:

There are many ferries that travel from Surigao to Siargao. Most of the connections are to Dapa Port on Siargao Island. From the port it is only a 20 minutes ride to Patrick’s on the Beach and 30 minutes to Patrick’s on Cloud 9.
The most comfortable and safer of the ferries is the Montenegro. This Roll-on-Roll-off (RoRo) vessel departs from the Surigao main pier at 12 noon.  The reverse trip (i.e.From Dapa to Surigao) leaves at 6am. It is about a 3.5 hour ride. This large Ro-Ro ferry accommodates cars & trucks and also has a basic canteen & air-con room. It costs approx p250 per person.

Other Ferries: Motor Vessel (MV) Fortune Angel is a steel ferry which has an air-con room and departs Surigao at 11:30AM and departs Dapa at 5:30AM – it is a 2.5 to 3 hour ride. MV Britphil is a fast local outrigger boat that departs Surigao at 6AM and departs Dapa at 11AM – it is a 2 to 2.5 hour ride – this ferry is faster but not as comfortable with cramped seating. MV LQP – By far the best and more comfortable of the local style Banka boats, it departs Surigao at 6AM and departs Dapa Siargao Island at 10.30AM – it has no air-con but has a small canteen and plenty of legroom. There are also other private Banka boats departing Surigao from the public pier right next to the Tavern Hotel. Other connections to Siargao Island are from Surigao to Del Carmen and to St. Monica. There is a boat departing Surigao at 12.30PM destined for Del Carmen Siargao Island. This is one of your only remaining options if you miss the Montenegro at 12pm.

The ferry tickets one way range from P210 to P350 depending on the type of ferry. If you want to charter a boat privately it will cost you between p8000 and p12000….So plan your trip in such a way that you don’t get stuck in Surigao overnight!

SIARGAO DAPA/PIER PICK-UP and TRANSFER SERVICE: A very beautiful and scenic ride 16km with our open air tour van. We can meet you inside the port. That will avoid a lot of hassle carrying the luggage and finding the driver. Our “Welcome Patrick’s on the Beach” sign is easily spotted. Charge for that is P300 per person. If 3 persons or more the transfer is reduced to P200 per person. 6 person and more P150 per person.

FLY to Butuan then BUS to Surigao City then FERRY to Siargao:

Some of our guests travel from Manila via Butuan City. Butuan is serviced daily with Philippine Airlines  (www.philippineairlines.com) and Cebu Pacific Air (www.cebupacificair.com).  The problem using that route is that you still have to travel to Surigao (approx 2 hour ride). Most of the flight schedules do not give you enough time to reach Surigao on time to catch the last ferry to Siargao at 12 noon.  We do not recommend this option.
Once you arrive in Butuan take a taxi to the Bus & Van Terminal and take the bus or a van from Butuan Bus Terminal to Surigao Bus Terminal. This is a three hour scenic bus or van ride 2 hours. Price for the van or bus fare is around P150. You need no reservation, simply ask for the next van or bus leaving. Once you arrive at the Surigao City bus terminal simply take any available transport to the Surigao Pier or we can meet you there to take you to the next ferry.

FERRY from Cebu or Manila to Siargao Island (via Surigao City):

From Cebu by sea via Surigao: Cokaliong Shipping Lines (www.cokaliongshipping.com) offers a daily service from Cebu to Surigao except Sundays. This overnight ferry leaves from Pier 1 and departs Cebu at 7PM and arrives Surigao City in the morning at 6:00AM. These large vessels are like cruise ships and you have a choice of accommodations: 1. Private aircon with TV Suite/Cabin or 2. Tourist class (sharing large aircon room with bunk beds and clean bed sheets) or 3. Economy non-aircon with bunk bed (nice sea breeze and you travel like most locals – you may have some roosters or chicken sleeping right next to you). We can purchase the tickets for you (our service charge per ticket is P500) or if you want to purchase the tickets yourself simply ask the taxi driver (only use white meter taxi) in Cebu to carry you to the Cokaliong office. When you arrive Surigao City take the next Ferry to DAPA/SIARGAO Island.

Cebu Ferries Corporation also has a Ferry Service between Cebu and Surigao City. Check out their schedules at www.cebuferries.com.

From Manila by sea via Surigao: Manila Superferries (www.superferry.com.ph) has a big cruise ship servicing the Manila to Surigao route. The trip is long (approx 30 hours) but rather comfortable with cable tv, clean bedding etc… Once you get to Surigao, you must jump on another ferry to Siargao (approx a 2-3hr ride).

BY LAND from Davao & Cagayan de Oro via Butuan and Surigao City:
